Deb and Matt,
A student of mine was wondering if you have ever thought of placing tracking chips in Astrid and Ares to keep track of them and make sure they are safe?
Thank you!

We wouldn’t be able to do anything like that without the permission of New York Department of Environmental Protection (NYDEC) and the US Fish & Wildlife Service. Also, for the same reason our site is not conducive to banding (opening the box to carry out banding would risk prematurely fledging the chicks), attempting to put tracking devices on the young birds would risk their safety. Although it would be great to know where the birds were at all times, attaching tracking devices to the adult pair would be a very difficult undertaking and it would be quite traumatic for them. Thanks for the great question!

Matt,
Thank you for your response! I will share with the student.

I can’t find the dates the three chicks hatched anywhere? Can anyone provide them please?
The first two chicks hatched on May 9th and the third on May 12th.
