What a Difference a Day Makes – Abrupt Return of Winter

Thursday, February 29, 2024

Astrid & Ares performed an unprecedented three dances in the pre-dawn hour this morning. However, following that, little activity was noted. The weather turned back to full-winter mode and that pretty much threw a wet blanket on all other breeding behavior.

Even More Stepped Up Breeding Activities – Rain/Wind Storm at Day’s End

Wednesday, February 28, 2024

There was lots of action today, especially in the morning. Several matings, and a food exchange occurred. Ares was particularly anxious today – trying to get Astrid to come to the nestbox for a ledge display. Unfortunately, she was only interested in mating. later in the morning, Astrid got irritated about people in office windows adjacent to the box. She jumped onto the nestbox roof at one point and glared at the window. A nasty rain/wind storm came through after 5:00 PM. One of the falcons hung onto to a high ledge on the north face of the State Building for the brunt of it.
