Astrid was on the eggs all night. Ares showed up on the State Building at around 5 AM but wasn’t there long. The first changing of the guard took place at 5:50. At 6:10 she was on the west face of the State Building. Had she been rummaging through Ares’ pantry ledges? Twenty minutes later we saw her feeding on something sizable on the hotel. We don’t know if it was something she took from the pantry or did she catch a pigeon? She was back at the box to check on Ares at 7:11, but there was no switch-out. At 7:20 she was sunning herself on the steeple. She was back at the box at 7:44. Ares didn’t want to leave the eggs and so she pushed him out. She made a throaty clicking sound while she did it.
Ares was on the steeple at 8 AM, but he didn’t stay there for long. He was next located on the hotel ledge at 9:45. When we found him there, he was spreading out his feathers and sunning himself. He was back to the nest at 10:34, but Astrid wasn’t leaving even after he tried pushing her off the eggs. At 11:36 he landed on a State Building perch. Astrid called when she saw him fly through. They finally switched places at noon and Ares got his turn on the eggs. She was flying around the canyon at 12:30. Ares called from the nest while he watched her. She landed on the State Building at 1:15. A half hour later she checked up on him at the box and then went back to her perch on the State Building. At 2:15 she was on the steeple. Sometime before 4 PM, Astrid was inside the box – presumably there to take over incubating, but Ares was still on the eggs a little while later so he must have refused to leave. She checked up on him again just before 5:00, but he acted like he was sleeping. She pressed him to go and they switched for the last time of the day. Ares wasn’t relocated after that. Goodnight all.
