  1. How terrible I am almost in tears, maybe she should have been left at the rehab a little longer. She didn’t even have a real chance between the harassment from her mother etc. My heart is broken. After watching her “grow up” etc. I know its life in the real world but it just stinks. 🙁

    1. Carrie Berman: Orion was definitely ready to return from the rehabilitator. She was strong, flying well and ready to return to her family. She could have returned sooner though we held off until the weekend when downtown is much quieter. We will never know what caused her to fly into the window but a good possibility is a reflection that she misunderstood. She was able to take a few great flights around with her mama flying with her and protecting her. She had done beautifully thus proving all was well for her and with her mother. We need to remember there are still two very healthy youngsters to follow in their learning journey and enjoy while in the area before migrating a couple months from now!

  2. Very sad news…we were all excited to see Orion back, being accepted by Ares and Comet and fledging this morning.

  3. Hello all

In following two sets of nests (.Harrisburg PA and here) it seems that windows are a hazard faced by many. A girl there also had a collision with a window early in the month ( mortal)

Thank you for the updates and great photos

    1. I ENJOYED BEING A SMALL PART OF THIS YEARS FLEDGE WATCH AND MEETING THOSE WHO WERE THERE. SAD ABOUT ORION. I LIKE TO THINK WE’LL ‘SEE HER AGAIN’.

  4. this is so sad. these young ones have alot working against them, from predators to all our human missteps (tall buildings without bird-safer glass windows, lead ammunition and fishing tackle, electric powerlines, pesticides and other toxic products, wind turbines, solar mirror panels, etc.)…. read more about all these things at american bird conservancy website….http://www.abcbirds.org/abcprograms/policy/collisions/glass.html

  5. In situations such as this, what can one say? I’m very sorry to hear the heartbreaking news of her passing.
