After reviewing hours of video from today, Deb Saltis of our Utica Falcon Team, has found conclusive evidence that the Utica Peregrine Falcons have a “pipped” egg. She was even able to see a falcon chick moving around inside the small hole in the egg. This is a historic first. This has never happened in Utica or Oneida County before! It could take a day or 2 for the chick to fully emerge, but things are finally happening!
The behavior of Astrid is evident that something is going on beneath her. She looks around and fidgets I guess because she feels movement in the eggs as the developing chicks are figuring how to get out of there! Wonderful news and a great shot of the pip!
Fantastic news!
Where is the nest and the webcam generally?
Hi Louisa,
Sorry we must have missed seeing your question. The nest and webcam are located on the 15th floor of the Adirondack Bank Building on Genesee Street in Utica.
Oh, we have a chick, we have a chick, we have a chick!
So excited, surely I’m not the only one to see the chick! Astrid got up, gently pulled the chick out from under her and eventually nuzzled the chick under her chest!
